hey guys im new to the forum

anyways iv got a '99 civic lx with a stock engine...

i dont wanna go crazy upgrading my car and the most i want to do is an engine swap for a nice VTEC

i dont know any specific model #'s and stuff like b16b etc. so thats were i hoped u guys could help.

can u guys just help point me into the direction of a nice engine (i do like the Preludes VTEC...190hp and 158lbs tq. but if u guys have any other suggestions by all meens plz post and tell me why its a good idea)

B series engines are usually easier to swap (if you have a 5/6th gen), and a prelude (H22) engine has a nice power gain, but is rather difficult to swap than the b series. they have 3 different displacements (b series that is) a B16, B18, B20. the b20 doesn't include vtec though.Most B16sare found in si's, and B18's are found in teggies (Ls which is nonvtec, and GSR which is vtec) That's only a few options, there are plenty others with varying power.

yea i kind of wnat the most power i can get out of a swap...seeing how i really wont be doing anything else to improve engine performance like turbo and what not (cept intake and maybe a catback)

H22 will give you the highest performance for a reasonable budget

incase i ever decided to go with forced induction....is the H22 a bad idea?

the h22 swap is rather difficult, but if you research enough and have a good idea about what is included, you shouldn't have a problem, and the h22 is a little larger than the b series blocks and are a tad more beefier and require more modification, but have way more torque, and boost won't be a problem, just like boosting any other motor.

if you want some bang for your buck id do a jdm gsr swap...good torque compared to b16, nice top end with the vtec and fits comfortable in your vehicle

Don't get a H22 if you want to boost. They can't run forged pistons (unless you sleeve them) because of the expansion rate of their sleeves. The pistons will ruin them.

If I were to boost a B-series it would be a B16. I used to think those motors were worthless, but their cylinder heads and transmissions gearing are great, better than a GSR on both counts, and it is quite a bit cheaper than a GSR. Also, when turbocharging, the greater stroke of the GSR doesn't matter as much. Turbos will make up to and only a certain horsepower (they are rated this way, in HP), because they will only flow a certain amount of air, regardless of the engine they're put on.N/A the stroke definitely makes a difference though.A lot more power can be had out of a GSR or better yet a LS/VTEC N/A.

Anyway, if I were going to boost I'd stick with the D-series. But not a lot of people are into those.

i think my freind said he found another b16 engine (that or a b18) at Pick-a-Part junkyard in great condish that would only cost me 150-300

and from what i heard these are very very easy to swap (correct?)
