engine swap ?

I've got a 99 civic ex with a d16y8 still the stock motor. I've got 153,000 miles still running like a champ and will last for a while but what i'm getting at is I want to buy another engine so I have it when this one dies! I know everybody's like swap a b16 or b18 or screw it and do a k series. I'd love to but money probs. so in ur guys opinion shud I swap the same motor or wat jdm in a d series would b good? :D

jdm b16a's are pretty cheap.

what are your plans? I mean if you dont really want any more power I would just swap in another d series permitting the engine you have now dies. Also your engine should run much longer if you keep it up. You might want to think about the b18. But then again you could always just get a d series, build it and then put a snail on it, lol

If you take care of the current engine, it could go another 153k miles. You'll likely need a new car not engine by that time.

Drop an LS1 into the civic, that would be fun!

You have a great platform already if you want more power you can rebuild and boost that one or if money is a problem there are plenty of boltons but that motor should last along time if you take care of it. I would keep it, and the jdm d15b is a good engine but wont give you much if any more power. I like the b16a and b18s all of them but they arent really economical swaps they will all cost quite a bit when you consider all the extra maintenance parts that should be replaced, not to mention their original owners are dependent on their reliability.

It's been done.

OP, if money's not a problem, go for a k24 swap.

thanx guys for the replies. yeah I def. take care or the car sumtimes to much. my pet pieve is changing the oil every 3000 miles and I often do it early just for the shear fact that I like it clean. air filter clean same time as oil change and flush the tranny fluid blah. blah. blah. but yeah I take care of it. I'll prolly end up buying a b16 then I'll just have it for when the motor goes and then when it goes i'll b ready! thanx

I'd highly advise against the b16. It's popular only because it's "m4d jdm, yo!"... in all honesty, it's more or less a d16 with an extra cam. From what I've heard, a b16 feels exactly like a d16 until vtec engages. If you want a b-series, I'd recommend a b18. You can pick up a b18b for the same price as a b16, but the downside is it's not a vtec engine. A b18c would be somewhere around $500-1,000 more than a b16/b18b, but it's a very good engine (and vtec).

What exactly does that have to do with this thread? Or are you just on your way to the For Sale section?
