I've got a question concerning the year models for engine swaps. I'm looking to purchase a B series engine for my1996Civic EX.

Would it be necessary to purchase a motor corresponding to the year of my car, or is it irrelevant?

 

any b series will swap into a 6th gen chassis, if you have emissions in your area, then you'll need a motor of the same year or a later model motor. it will also need to be OBDII in your case if you have emissions. but an OBDI engine can be swapped. so....it's a good idea to swap out a motor from the years 1996-2000 (or newer depending on the platform)

yes, you'll need many parts for the swap, you'll need the block, head, tranny, ecu, dizzy, half/drive shaft, shifter assembly, mounts, and other odds and ends.
