engine swap noob question
Ok I am far from doing an engine swap it will probably more then a year before I consider it. I just have a question about how it all works. I am looking at the H-Motor site and am looking at these engines.
http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30016 -h22a http://hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000...age&item=30003 -B16a Here is my questions on how this all works. I have a 00 DX hatch by the way. The two engines are both complete changeover's it says on the site. So if I bought either of those and had it shipped over to me would I have to buy anything else before I could have it dropped into my car? Like for mounting it into the car itself it says something about a hasport engine mount kit. But other then that is there anything else. Next is if I bought these since it comes with the tranny and all of that (what is the LSD tranny upgrade?) would I be able to switch my automatic out into a manual with one of these or would I have to buy extra stuff. If there is extra stuff what would I need? Lastly it seems like the h22 is the better choice since it has more power. The price is somewhat near eachother though so is there any reason why I should consider the b16 over it? Is the install easier or anything? What is the average cost that I could expect a shop to charge me for this swap? |
RE: engine swap noob question
Check your years on the engines.. not sure on mounting but you may need one from your year range of vehicle.. otherwise if you can swap these in without extensive fab you need to convert to obd1 also (someone correct me if wrong).. EK is 96-00 .. our common swaps are B16A2, B18C1, B18C5 ITR, B18B and of course the B16 CTR and for your year of car if you have emmissions and want to pass you need obd2b ecu .. not sure if obd2 even works with obd1 engines.. alot of other info can be cleared up here Swaps

RE: engine swap noob question
im going to say this right off the bat. i'd never take a B16A over a H22. that being said, the H22 would be a much tougher swap. the B16A was made in OBDII, the H22 was not. the B16A3 would be a much easier swap than the H22. aside from the OBDII conversion with the H22, the H22 also has a bigger footprint and is harder to work with than the B16. with the two, you have to change the rear engine mount to the one from the 99/00 Si. you may have to change the drivers side mount for the H...but im not 100% positive on that. i'll have to look it up. everything else is fairly straightforeward.
and holy hell since when have H22's been selling for more than 2 grand? |

RE: engine swap noob question
theyre sweet for autoxers rocking the power/weight ratio with not so much power, and they help with torque transfer, and once you get used to them they'll usually take a second or two off your track times (if you're a good driver).
