Engine Timing question

Alright, I recently did a new head gasket on my 95 DX..1.5 litre, 16 valve. Anyways, when I did the engine timing, I had the Camshaft pulley in the right location. ((The two lines and the "up" the pulley says all in the right location. The Crankshaft pulley was lined up with the two sight markers to the single line past the 3 close marks.)) I'm pretty sure that that is how it suppose to be timed.

Now, i'm not sure if this was suppose to be done or not, but I heard that your suppose to rotate the engine counter-clockwise a little bit before the engine is started, to get rid of the slack on the timing belt. i've driven the car a few times since I did the timing, and the engine is making some noise, that just seems to get louder. Also, someone drove it earlier today, and told me that it wouldn't get up past about 15 mph..

Has this ever happened to you, and do you know how to fix it? I'm planning on re-doing the timing in alittle bit, but the 15 mph thing has me a bit worried. any help would be greatly appricated.

RE: Engine Timing question

First, make sure you have all the timing marks lined up. On the crank pully, the white hash mark shouldbe between the V groove on the timing belt cover, and on the cam pulley, it should be in up position with the hash marks parallel with the head. Yes, after you put the belt on, you rotate it counter clockwise to tighten up the slack and reset the timing belt tensioner. If your still having problems after you redo it, let us know.

Agreed [sm=smiley20.gif]. Look out for that protruding "V" on the lower part of the timing cover to line up the marks.
