EX tranny swap

Hi all. I have a DX four door, with a D16y7 engine. Ive heard people say that the best HP gain for the money I can get is to swap in a tranny from an EX. is this true? if so how dificult is the labor?

its not a hp gain but im sure it will help because the gears are a little different...if im not mistakin the gears on the ex are shorter then the dx...if they both are hydro trannys and both manual or auto it shouldnt be that hard.

hmm, does the tranny drop pretty easily out of the bottom of the car? if I went to a junkyard how easy would it be to pull one? does it just unbolt?

No, there are a few more steps involved than just unbolting it. On the passenger's side, you have to disconnect the lower control arm on the suspension so you can swing the strut out and pull the axle out of the tranny. Up top, I believe there is one mount that is native to the tranny. There are also a few plugs, the clutch slave cylinder, starter, and some other various BS you need to take off. If it isn't already gone, all the stuff you need to remove can be found easily by removing the air box/intake assembly. As for the "unbolting it" part, 4 bellhousing bolts and you're done. (Keep in mind, those are just rough guidelines. I'm postiive there are some other minor parts you need to remove.)

dotn forget the "bitch pin" in the shift linkage. you HAVE to use a flat punch to get it out. a tapered punch wont work. good luck.....

hehe, yeah, ive used all sorts of things, but the thing ive found works best is the punch. but im trying to make a tool from a c-clamp. we'll see how that goes....
