ok so i have looked thru this forum several times about the d17 engine being basically a dead engine to work on. but instead of flamming it. I wanna hear the potential it has without costing me 20k lol.

just let me know? which turbo, Which I/H/E setup, compression, ITB?? just let me know so i can have a goal to work toward. I love the car overall I just wish I could at least get to 200 hp or even close..and if I can get that NA..even better

procivic.com you can get some pistons and rods get a return fuel system and there are turbos out there

well a small turbo like a t25, 14b, IHI VF11, or t28 would give you some okay gains, you can put almost any turbo on your car, just might take some fabrication. A big thing for you if fuel managment problems since you can convert to OBD1, but both GReddy Emanage, AEM FIC, and AEM EMS are avaialble to use. If you can afford the EMS, that'll be great: CLICK ME!. Lower compression pistons and beefier rods would do your engine good too.

nice..so if I boosted would I risk blowing the engine evertytime I drove. this is a daily driver for me hwy miles.

and what prevenative checks should I do b4 I boost ( if i do)
would this get me to 200 or close hp??

and say 3k.. would that get me a good setup??

Well, OBD 1 conversion isn't an option with 7th gen Civics unfortunately. Like Flip said, you can pretty much make anything work, so you need to start by doing a TON of research. I'm talking research till your eyes bleed, and then research some more.

Turbo:
Dezod motorsports makes what seems to be the most well-liked turbo kit for the D17, and they're customer service doesn't get much better. Paul is there D17 guy, he'll help you out with questions if you call. www.dezodmotorsports.com

The stock internals are good till around 200whp (wheel horse power, there's about 100whp stock on a D17a2), so unless you're looking to build your engine, 5-6 psi is a solid number that's still in the 'reliable' range. That will probabaly put you around 180ish with a 5-speed. You'll need fuel management (Piggyback-$600, or Standalone-1500), the kit, and lots of misc. things, so read up!

I would say that honestly, $6000 would be a good number to be prepared to spend by the time you're done with all the little stuff and a good tune. You can piece together a kit, and spend less, but for your first boost application, you may want to consider buying a kit like Dezod's.

N/A: ITB's would have to be homemade, or adapted from another setup, and an N/A build will probabaly cost you about what a turbo would, or more. It's a lot harder to get gains N/A.

Swaps: K20a2 (RSX-S), K20a (DC5 ITR), or K24 all yield great results and are reliable because they're N/A. Expect to spend $6-8K for a swap like this, w/o any mods. Great motors, but man they're expensive.

Good luck man! I had hopes of doing that for a while until the complexity became overwhelming...don't let that stop you if you really want to do it though.

bakertime--thanks for all the info!!I can def see how it can get ovewhelming. I know everyone wants to swap but I wanna do something different. and 6k for a stock engine..at least..thats a whole lot of $$.

im have the same engine and i would love to build it up. I have herd that it can blow the engine if you put a turbo n it. I dont know if they ment only if you dont build it up or if they ment that even if you build it up it still can blow. IDK can anyone clear that up for me.

im in the same boat motory..but you can blow any engine w/ a turbo you gotta tune it right. but if I decide turbo I wanna make sure i can drive it daily
