H22 in a 99 CIVIC
 

I'm trying to do an engine swap in my 99 civic dx. I thought about doing a b18c but I won't the h22 instead. I was going to do the v6 from the acura legend but i think it is to big for my motor bay. Plus i couldn't find one with a manual trans. So my main question is, could i fit an h22a with turbo in my 99 civic and what kind of mods would i need to pull this off?

It's possible, and it's a tight fit. I beleive you need to changed your motor mounts. I think you outa swap in a b series. heres why. First of all, they are lighter. alot lighter. Second of all, they are easier to put in. and Third they have lots of power. don't be fooled by the 200 hp.

really? you think i should just go with a b18c? i heard an h22 with the turbo kit is pretty nasty

I must agree with Johnny on this one. A friend of mine swapped a H22 into an EK once, and i was suprised at all the work that had to be done. I don`t know how much technical knowledge you have and if you`re going to do the swap yourself,but there are alot of things you have to think about. H22 is much heavier,and will change the carracteristics of your car. So a beefier anti-sway bar and some suspension mods are needed,other motor mounts aswell. And why a H22? Spend your money on a B-series, they`re stronger ,lighter and a good base for further tuning, in my opinion.

Well, since you`re going for a turbo setup in the future, i think you should consider this one.

B18C1
- VTEC
- Found in: 1994-2001 Integra GS-R (DC2 & DB8)
- Displacement: 1797 cc
- Compression: 10:0:1
- Power: 170 hp @ 7600 rpm, 128 ft/lb torque @ 6200 rpm
- Transmission: Y80

I`ve been told that this engine responds to boost very wel(correct me if i`m wrong,anyone),and there should be plenty of them around in the states, for reasonable prices.(again, correct me if i`m wrong)

boost with an LS engine. lower compression and they're cheaper too.

but I'd personally drop in a JDM H22a.

220 horsepower and crazy torque with no turbo lag.

as for swapping motor mounts, you're going to have to do that with any engine swap unless you put another d-series.

id either go with a b16 or a b18, easier to swap and not really any modifcation needed to fit in the engine bay, id go b16 tho, its cheaper than the b18

The H22 is a biatch to swap and doesn't respond well to boost which it sounds like you plan on doing. Yes though, NA, it makes great power out of the box. A B18c1 swap can be done in about 6 or 7 hours if you know what you're doing, makes 180 hp out of the jdm version, and responds great to boost (although the ls is cheaper). There's a guy on this forum (285civic96 or something like that) that has 285 hp from 10 psi on a stock b18, so they respond pretty well. He's been driving it for more than a year i think with no problems.
