Head Milling vs. Larger Piston!!!

Just like it says .. what are pro's cons vs each.. base for those that dont know i have a Y7 block and going to be doing a MINI ME but am having full headwork done prior to install and also wanted to refresh bottom end with new rings/bearing/shotpeed rods etc.. but I used the compression calculator and seen with only slight milling of the head you can obtain upwards of 11:0:1 compression on stock piston.. just wondering vs buying some d16a1 pistons or aftermarket 10:5:1 pistons .. what are advantages of replacing the pistons .??

The advantage is you can go slightly over bore and you would be able to spray on them. If your staying N/A w/o any other plans OE honda pistons will be fine.

You got the comp calculators working. Good. [sm=smiley20.gif]

This one is my favorite. http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html

Since we're on the subject... kinda... what about block decking? How far can a block safely be decked?

you shouldn't deck the block anymore than needed to keep it squared and true. same with the head imo, but i would rather not do either

Well yeah, if you did your pistons would be sticking out the block. I guess really I need to get the block in my hands before making any decisions about it...

I would just mill the head. That's what I would do anyways.

glad i got some responses this time :P .. now if i can get some return input in same post about whether i can obtain around 160whp on my MINI ME build by only refreshing bottom and and getting full headwork done with stage 2 or 3 valvetrain and Neptune job.. by changing compression .. and what compression you think i should run?>The more i keep reading into NA the more im seeing people breaking into 13's N/A on D's ..

i wouls say the maximum amount possible for a dd and street gas 91 octane or 93 octane.

If you can get E85 in your area, convert to that and push it's comp through the roof. E85 is rated at about 105 octane.

This is something I've always wondered. What is the limit of our little D-series's on 91 and 93 octane, compression wise?
