HELP!!LOUD ENGINE NOISE
 

I JUST BOUGHT A USED 2002 HONDA CIVIC EX LAST WEEK . CERTIFIED USED CAR FROM HONDA. I LOVE IT. EVERTHING SEEMS FINE EXCEPT FOR WHEN I ACCELERATE AND REVERSE I THINK IT IS THE ENGINE..SOUNDS REALLY LOUD ..KIND OF SOUNDING LIKE A RACECAR. BUT ONLY WHEN IT IS AT LOW SPEEDS. ANYTHING 35 AND ABOVE SOUNDS A LOT QUIETER. IS THIS NORMAL FOR A HONDA CIVIC?. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND IS IT FIXABLE?

Why are you doing 35 in reverse? And is your caps lock key stuck or something?

You dont have to yell. THe tranny is naturally loud when in reverse. Stomping on the gas pedal will destroy your transmission. Please be more careful.

IM NOT DOING 35 IN REVERSE. I WAS JUST SAYING THAT EVEN WHEN I REVERSE IT IS LOUD. I DONT KNOW WHAT A CAPS LOCK KEY IS...SORRY IM A GIRL...AND EVEN IF I DONT STOMP ON THE GAS IT IS LOUD. I DONT KNOW IF I SHOULD TAKE IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM TRY AND FIX OR JUST LIVE WITH IT. CAUSE I DONT KNOW IF IT IS FIXABLE.

Take it back to the dealer, it must have a warranty.

You're typing in all UPPERCASE letters instead of lowercase.

I think I know what it is. Its your exhaust system. Do you live in an area where your car can be exposed to salt? Is there rust under your car? It could very well be somehwere in the exhaust that is leaking. It wont hurt your car but it will be just loud. Take it to the dealer and have them look at it on a lift. They wont charge you.

NO I DONT LIVE IN A PLACE LIKE THAT AND NO RUST. ILL TAKE IT BACK AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I JUST DONT KNOW IF THIS NOISE IS NORMAL OR NOT FOR A HONDA CIVIC.

No its not normal. It most likely fine. Im positive its your exhaust though.






By the way, your caps key is the following circled. Please turn it off. It drives everyone crazy including me.
