Default Higher RPM

How do some of the ricers get huge rpms (9500rpm)? I know mine maxes out at mid 6s and Id like to be able to wind it up to the 8s. Taking a stab in the dark but is it a case of high tension valve springs and an ECU mod? I have not and never will turbo this car, and its currently a D16Y7 and Im gonna mini-me it up to a Y8 VTEC, with just a the intake exhaust header mods. I would really love to be able to streach the RPM so any advice on hardware mods would be great, cheers.

you will need duel valve springs, arp rods bolts. a cylinder head that makes power that high. a good cam as well

Okay, I feel it necessary to say this first:
your engine (once youdo the mini-meswap) willmake it maximum power at 6600rpm. There is no point in revving past this with stock internals, since after it you start losing power.

Now, on to your question. If you replace the camshaft with a more aggressive cam that makes more power in the upper rpms (you'll want at least a stage II if you want to go past the indicated redline and still be making power... stage I's are usually done by the stock redline), then it is sensible to have your engine in the best rev range for power. With a Stage II camshaft, any manufacturer will recommend upgrading the valvetrain. Since you want to rev past the stock redline, I'd definitely say fully upgrade the entire valvetrain.

Just remember:
Going past your vehicle's redline (even with an upgraded valvetrain)is like smoking; sure, you might enjoy it while you're doing it, but eventually you'll look back and realizethe damage you've done.

There's honestly no point if your car only makes power up to 6500 RPM.
