How can identify an 8th gen 2011 engine form an older one?

First time posting here,as per the title I'm trying to buy a replacement engine for my 2007 Honda Civic, I'm unlucky as my engine block cracked so I'm in the process of getting an engine from a 2011 civic but doing a bit research from 2006 to 2011 they basically the same engine but the 2011 no longer has the engine block issue, so if they are the same engine how can I tell which is 2006-2010 engine from a 2011? What should I look for?

Hey, I’ve been down that road too. The best way I found to tell them apart is by checking the engine stamp — look for the engine serial number near the transmission mount; 2011 blocks usually start with a different sequence than earlier ones. Also, the casting around the block might be slightly different near the crack-prone area. If possible, get one with documented mileage from a 2011. Better safe than sorry!
