No turbo=no blowoff
An exhaust system by itself wont help much, but combine with a header and intake, and you can free up a few ponies. Dont cheap out, buy a system that the company did their R&D, -tanabe, hks, Apex-i, Skunk2, just to name a few
So, on to other ?'s:

Light Weight rods:

Ok I'll make this very easy for you;

pistons - Wiseco high comp - http://www.importperformanceparts.net/ $450 + $80 for rings

rods - Crower - http://www.atomicspeedware.com/rodcrowac.htm $710 (I swear I have found them cheaper just can't find the site again right now)

valvetrain - D16Y/Z any company, here is Crower part number for vavletrain *these are springs/retainers only* CR-84166 $350. Valves are also compatible between D16 and D17 motors. ~$150ish.

As for N2O, I don't favor Zex, but keep in mind that you do NOT have a return style fuel system so you can only use a wet kit.
