hey guys, im new to this forum
im in search of more power for my Civic, i bought an
ex show car 1991 model of a friend, the interior is fantastic
with red leather bucket seats, the paint job is metalic blue
its lowered, 17inch rims, body kit... the works!!! i bought it
for $4,500 Australian dollars with a standard engine.
ive got roughly $5,000 ozy dollars to spend on
the engine... does any1 have any idea's how i can get better performance.
what engine fits into my car???because i want more *****.
how much would it cost roughly??? and
were can i get it??? im new to all this so any1 with any infomation
would be most appreciated!!! i would like to also throw in a turbo later on
so can any1 help me. thanks

yea, get a turbo. Or swap the motor and then turbo. I my self dont know whats in a 91 ex, is the the 1.5l?

 

I would recommend a swap, but I imagine it would probably be significantly more do buy an engine and get it done in Australia than in the states. 5000 equates to about US $3,750 though, so you'd at least be able to do something like a B16A1. Just out of curiosity, what trim level is the car?

 

fast 23 civic... yeh its a 1.5L. but i want more power...

Sorry... I just reread your post and answered my own question. The trim level is basically just what version of the car it is (base, DX, EX, LX, SI, etc.) and after reading your first post again, you already said it's an EX, so that's that out of the way.

The B16A1 (often referred to as an SIR-I) is from the 89-91 Civic and CRX SIR from Japan. It's a 1.6L dual overhead cam VTEC engine that puts out 160 hp and 111 lb/ft of torque at the crank. The reason I would recommend it is that, since it's from the same generation as your car, it's essentially made for that engine bay, so the motor mounts will work as they are, the tranny will fit right, the axles will work fine, and you'll save a lot of money you would spend on extra parts if you were doing something else.

A full SIR-I swap can be had in the states for under $1200 USD, but like I said, I don't think it'll be cheap to ship to Australia, so you may want to look around for one there, and also try and find someone reliable to do the install (if you choose to go the swap route). But you won't be disappointed.

 

I'm not positive but I think he might have meant ex show car, like it used to be a show car. I could be wrong though.

will that produce alot more than a 1.5???
i gota ED model of a 1990 honda civic.
its not mentioned within the models you gave me
EX,EL etc... could i be wrong?
so personally you think that it would
produce more power than a CA18 from a 180sx??
and you also mentioned that its a VTEC engine?
i thought they were 1.8??

but i could throw a turbo on top of this engine you think?????

could this engine fit into my car... 170 hp is qutie fast compared to my 1.5 at the moment???
and can i put a turbo on top of this engine below???????????????????
