I've got about $1500 to drop into my engine.

By the end of winter I plan on dropping about $1500 into my engine.

Keep in mind I'm boosting after winter as well. (T25 on a D16Y8)

I'm hoping I will be able to do some of the work by myself, but part of this money is probably going to have to go to labor too.

If you had $1500 what would you do?

Eagle Rods, Vitara Pistons. Installed.

What kind of gains would a person see with doing the piston and eagle rods with say a cam setup?

Pete, Could I get you to PM me some info on what internals, bolts ect. produce the most gains and a rough price on things. I wanting to do something this winter since I have my motor already out and also have a spare motor now. Z6 motor with Y8 intake mani, harness and dizzy. If you could do that for me when you get a free minute Id really appreciate it, you seem to know your **** when it comes to the motor building. Thanks man

I just got major deja vu from your answer Pete. Weird.

How are SRP pistons?

EDIT: Here's a setup I put together just now looking at the lowest prices I could find...

75 mm Vitara Pistons – 150 shipped
Eagle H-beam Rods – 300 shipped
Crower Camshaft – 250 shipped
Skunk2 Valve Springs – 180 shipped
----------------------------------------------------
Total Cost of Parts - 880 w/ shipping
Labor - No friggin clue?

What kind of gains would I be getting out of this? I am going to boost, however If I ever feel like de-boosting I don't want to have to go through replacing all the pistons and rods. Would this setup run fine without forced induction? I mean, I'm sure it will run slower as an N/A engine is faster when it has high compression. Only... how much slower?

What do you guys think? I need to read more into what all these parts do. I have a general idea but, it's been a while since I've sat down and studied something so... here we go.

I say put the money away and save it.

either save it for a bigger motor, or build the one you have for more boost.. aka pistons, rods, cams, new valves, bored maybe? either get your motor fully built up for boost, or save it for a bigger motor.. just save up another 500 and get a h22.. sell your d16 for like 700 and drop that into the h22.. thats what i would do

The pistons and rods will lower compression, so you wont gain anything.....you will most likely lose some power......but those internals will give your engine the strength it needs to deal with sufficient boost, making more power than you need. I also agree with marty.......but I also know this isnt a financial forum......and you want to make your car faster.

Actually Pete a forged 9 to 1 compression piston will work for the amount of power the car will see most likely and you will gain a tad bit of power while not boosted because the engine will be "tighter" if that makes any sense. Also after you boost it will spool a turb slightly lower and make for a broder tq curve.

Well being I see you will be running a T25 I say to not get any forged pistons or rods. I say to invest in tuning tools and maybe a cam upgrade because the T25 will run out of steam before you max out what your car can handle. I say you take how ever much of that that needs to be used and let Evans Tuning in PA tune your car after it is boosted. Should be around $500 to $600
