Lookie Here!

I get back from vacation and my new toys are here.......Skunk2 Manifold and a Golden eagle vac manifold...........the damn hondata intake manifold gasket has yet to arrive, so installation is pushed back a bit.........

so how long should this take to install.......i think its going to be a pain in the arse.......

a lot of things join up at the IM. it could take anywhere from a couple hours to a weekend. i bet you'll knock it off in 3 or 4 hours not including beer breaks.

RE: Lookie Here!

yeah the manifold won't take to long, just a pain to get the support bracket underneath (if it still has it). make sure to torque the bolts to spec, but you should already know that

one question, what is the vacuum block for? will that manifold not give you sufficent vacuum

riceburner700 02-06-2006 10:17 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

i think it is for all of your vacuum lines to go into so it doesnt look like lines going everywere.... just cleans it up a bit

Pete 02-06-2006 10:56 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

Exactly, ive got a vac line coming off the fuel pressure regulator for my boost gauge, and one coming off my PCV line for the BOV. It look like a mess, the vac manifold will allow me to use the brake booster for the source and then the 6 ports will splice it very cleanly.

I did mine a few weeks ago and it was way easy, 2-3 hours. Looks way sweeter than the stocker that's for sure! And don't forget the flow.

RE: Lookie Here!

lol I can have a single cam out and in another car in about 2 hours. a Intake manifold for me is like a 40 minute job.

RE: Lookie Here!

....well aren't you freakin special....

:D I'd have to say a few hours Pete. When working on cars, it seems that having everything work out perfectly the first try, is almost never the case. Theres always some little annoyance along the way.

RE: Lookie Here!

i dont remember if its EGs or EKs...i think its probably EGs...its damn near impossible to get to some of the bolts because of how everything is positioned. i think it might have actually been Sniper who had problems with that when he was installing his supercharger

Pete 02-07-2006 03:13 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

yea, well im going to go buy a torque wrench this week, and as soon as the hondata gasket gets here im going to get up at 8am and tackle the project.....there are only 7 bolts holding the actual manifold on, im going to take my time though. Im very curious to see how much power this is going to add......maybe ill bolt a test pipe up that day too.

StifflersMom 02-07-2006 03:18 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

I have a spare dial-type torque-wrench if you want it...

dj_ipirate 02-07-2006 03:22 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

you might want to lable some things with sticky notes. so you dont cross any wires and such.

just an idea.

RE: Lookie Here!

how old is your car? you may want to get new studs and replace the old ones if you have any problems getting any of them to loosen, it will weaken those suckers, and then when your trying to put just those 5flbs on them , they snap!!!!!!!!!

jwsimons 02-07-2006 03:48 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

this has me thinking, because im taking my heads back off to install my skunk2 valvetrain parts. some of those studs are a pain to reach in my ride, woukld it almost be easier to remove the head, then r&r the intake that way. then you know you wouldnt be marring any mating surfaces etc..

IMs are only torqued to 5lbs? i thought they were more than that

97civicturbo 02-08-2006 11:04 AM

RE: Lookie Here!

some of the bolts are hard to get to while the motor is in the car, I jsut realized I did it with the motor on a stand so it was a little easier for me. GL

RE: Lookie Here!

ehh, its not that bad. its pretty awkward, but just expect that, take your time, and double-check everything, and youll be fine.

Pete 02-08-2006 07:55 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

Caleb what kinda gains ya think ill see from it?

Pete 02-08-2006 08:05 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

9 or so

Nail I3unny 02-08-2006 08:05 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

do you know how much hp you have? if not how much boost are you running?

Nail I3unny 02-08-2006 08:10 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

eh...prolly 8 or 9 hp...im not really that great at estimating HP from psi, i havnt gone through the equations enough...but considering an IM will give you 3 or 4 over stock...im gunna stick with those numbers.

oh yeah...and of course throttle response will increce dramatically

Pete 02-08-2006 08:14 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

Many people claim the Skunk2 intake manifolds are loud..........idk how i feel about that. Im thinking about throwing in a test pipe when i install this manifold too.........those 2 combined should make a damn nice power gain.

Funny as it may seem, im not even happy about the power gain, im going to be happy to have my car idling normally so i can use my remote starter in the morning and not hear "RRRM RRRRM RRRRM "........i havent been using it cuz the idle just goes up and down....stupid gasket.

sacicons 02-08-2006 08:27 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

its not loud in the traditional sense. it makes noises that are unlike normal engine noises. like it will have a little whistle at certain RPMs, and it will kinda idle funny at times. nothing too bad though. youll get used to it.

Pete 02-08-2006 08:49 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

yea..my dad said something to me about my car...he drove it when i was away........hes like "What did you do to that car? Sounds like somethings spinning when i step on the gas........that cars pretty fast.....what did you do?"

haha the turbo is pretty loud.......i guess im just used to it.

Nail I3unny 02-08-2006 09:28 PM

RE: Lookie Here!

thats what im hoping my dad will say after i go off to college and come back with a built GSR underhood.
