Well, the 5th gen civics (92-95) only went up to EX in the US. If it's from Canada it could be up to an Si.

If it were an American EX or a Canadian Si it would have the D16Z6 engine in it. But, you have an engine from a 96-98 DX, HX, or CX.

The 92-95 civic non-VTEC engines were D15 blah blah blahs. And the 96-98 non-VTEC engines are D16Y7's while the SOHC VTEC engine is the D16Y8.

Conclusion, you are buying a CX that had a blown motor, so they swapped in a new engine and at the time had a D16Y7. But, be happy, that's a better engine than what came with the CX originally.
