Go to a junkyard and find one. The engine type should be stamped on the block and in the documentation with the car.

Yeah a junkyard or even ebay would be your best bet. Is the engine still running now or is it finished? If not, I'd say ride it out and save up a little more $$$ because your going to want to buy a half decent engine with low mileage.. especially if your hoping to boost down the road. Now as for which engine to go with it all depends on how much whp you'd like to achieve. If your on a tight budget now I would say go with a D series - D16z6/d16y8 (125hp, sohc vtec) not sure which one will go best with your frame but you might need mounts for the engine to bolt up to your car which will be an added cost on your already tight budget.

Well..you can put any motor in there with the right mounts. A d-series is the easiest/basic way to go. Look up "D15B" on ebay, they have full JDM D15B VTEC motors for $450 which is a great deal and motor.
