Loose linkage need help
 

Ive always thought the shifter on my 97 civic dx was very loose but just assumed it was normal. What could I do to tighten the linkage? Is it easily replaceable or is there some sort of rebuild kit I should look for? Any advice is appreciated thanks.

97' civic dx 5-speed has been having trouble starting, I'll turn the key and all the lights and such will go on but the engine is not turning over. After several tries the car will finally start. Has anyone else had similar problems?

buy new shifter bushings, the rubber wears out and causes play, 14$ fix ;)

have you had your starter tested? also test the ignition switch.

depends where the slop is... on my old 94civic the linkage was actually molested by previous owner that drilled the rivets out to remove the shifter when they pulled the trany out because they where to stupid to know to knock the keeper pin out and the actual shifter joints where worn badly! i had to replace the whole shifter arm.

but if your shifter just feels alittle loose like he said it could just be the stock shifter bushings needing replaced, and ya might as well upgrade to some polyurethane bushings. one goes on the front stabilizer rod, and the other goes on the rear shifter under the car that holds the rear bracket.
