Maintenance-Turbocharged engine.

I am new to the whole modding thing, so bear with me please.
I am considering buying an 06 that already has a turbo on it. If I do so, or I decide to add a turbo to a different car, what kind of maintenance am I looking at. I already understand that synthetic oil is advised as well as frequent oil changes, spark plug replacement, and a good air filter. Also I've read about some driving habits that tend to extend the life of a turbo. i.e. warming the car up before driving, not using boost until the car is warmed up, letting the car idle for 30 sec to a min before turning the car off.
My question is, what am I missing? Are there other habits/regular maintenance issues that I have overlooked? Is there a reputable source where I could find this information, i.e a manual on maintaining a modified engine?
