Mini Me on my 95 hatch
I just got this hatch a couple of weeks ago. I wont be able to do a full swap for a couple years most likely so im going the smaller and cheaper route. It has a D15B8 in it and needs a little more to it. Im thinking of just putting a B7 head on it. Any ideas of what else I could/should do instead to get the most out of this?
94-95 the d15b8 blocks have only 2 valve relief pistons, so you wont be able to stick a 16 valve head on the block
best bet would be look for a complete d15b7 or d16z6 long block for a $250 bucks and just swap the whole motor

I cant really find much for a whole swap around here for a reasonable price. So there isnt a mini me I could do to get a little extra out of this motor? Im not looking for something major yet, Ill have to put the full swap off for another year atleast. But it feels so slow of the start.
i swaped a d15b7 into my 92 civic hatch cx, stock was a d15b8, and i agree slow but what do you expect the cx has taller gears and lower hors power. i got lucky and got the d15b7 and trany for 150 bucks, almost a year and a half ago droped it in and i have put about 70k on it now im doing a head gasket and putting the cx tranny back in.
if you get into the cost of rebuilding the bottom end gaskets and berings just to replace the pistons and consider the time involved you would be better off biding your time and finding a d15b7 that you can drop in.
i am still looking for a harnes for the d15b7, but i am going to hook it up this go around with the cx ecu and a one wire O2 sensor, there are a few modifications you have to do one of the plugs on the intake manifold has a diffrent plut that you have to swap just run to the honda dealership and copy the electrical pages out of the shop manual.
for refrence the 1992 civic DX and LX came with the D15B7 motors and all you need is the engine side harnes and the ecu, my dash clock stoped working after the swap, dont really know why will se if it works again after i put the cx ecu back in.
but you dont have to get new axels/mounts and it made a big diffrence to me. even with the motor running in default mode.
