my 94 civic wont start up:\
Hey guys, i have a 94 honda civic ex, inline 4, that has had some troubles starting up the past couple months and today it wont start at all.
So in december the civic would start, sputter for a second, then die....i wait about 5 minutes, and it starts! it did that like every other time i started it. 1/5 times i started the civic, it didnt even "churn"?, it just make a zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz noise, so i waited and tried it a few minutes later and it would work. ||||TODAY|||| 1st start attempt:Morning engine started for about 1 second then slowly sputtered/died 2nd attempt:Noon almoost started, but no sucess 3rd attempt:Afternoon put some gas thinner in the tank and filled it up a bit, tried to start it up, it churned, but no startup. i know this sounds really weird, but its what is happening... :/ ....and i idont have a clue what to do. Do any of you guys know what the problem(s) could be? Let me know if you need ANY additional INFO about the civ. thx:) |
That is wierd.
I would say that if it was just making the zzzzz noize it could be your starter and the starting every once in a while could be your fuel pump/filter. How many miles are on your car?

Check possible problems like fuel pump fuse and possibly the fuel pump, cap rotor, starter are all possibilities i would check the starter and fuses first because they are the easiest.

If the engine cranks but won't start, then listen for whether the fuel pump primes and whether there is spark at the plugs. Does the CEL stay ON when the key is turned to ON(II)?
Your problem also seems consistent with a faulty ignition switch, so check that too: Attachment 22424 |
