My Honda is dead, I need serious help!!!
 

What happened, is I was trying todry fastand my car just died. I was doing like 80 in third on my 99 ex, redlining it, and it just made sum weird sound and the rpms dropped to 0. I had to tow the car home. It's a stock D16y8 with k&n intake and a 2.5" cat back with a highflow cat. The car has about 140K on it, and i don't think the timing belt was ever changed. I had her since about 104K. Took off the valve cover, just to make sure that the internals are ok. Looks fine - valve springs are in place and everything looks normal, checked the spark, fuel pressure, all ok. The timing belt seems really loose though, i have no idea what it's supposed to be like cause i've never looked at it before. She doen't start, but when she turns over some time there is a crazy backfire from the exhaust- which makes us think it's a timing issue. If anyone ever had an issue like that, let me know. Please help!!!

im no expert but it sounds like your timing belt jumped, take it to a pro. asap! would be good to mess with that belt and hurt the timing worse you know.

def sounds like timing. i dont know how much you know about cars but you def need a new timing belt and need to reset your timing. till you do that i would stop messing with it cause you can bend a valuve if it hasnt already happened.

There should be about a half inch of slack on the timing belt, no more than that. If it is more than that, it's probably been stretched (suprisingly not broken..) and will need to be replaced.

If you think its timing, check the timing. Make sure the motor is mechanically timed, then check to make sure everything in the dizzy is okay, and work from there.

Stop trying to start the car until you get these things figured out. Or else, like mentioned above, you will bend valves and end up replacing the head.
