Well i have had my 88 honda civic for about 4 months now and today when i pulled into burgerking it started blowing white smoke. So i think that i have blown a head gasket or cracked my head. It is also getting hot then cooling off and my heater quit working. Then when i tried to start it again it would barely turn over. So now what should i do. The last thing i did to it was put on a header pipe. The moter is a d15b7 out of a 95 civic. i need the car to go to work in and it is running bad.

I have a couple of qestions about how to proceed. Should i just replace the head gasket or the whole head. If i should replace the head will a 1.5 vetec fit on my block with out any clearence problems. I can get the head and a computer for the 1.5 vtec. I beleave it is a d15z6 head. I would like to put on a d16y8 head an dcomputer but i dont have them. Can anyone help i need my car back fast.

If you take off the head your gonna need new head bolts too. Some people put the old ones back on but I would't recommend it.

 

white smoke? Sounds like coolant. Check the radiator and all the hoses. There very well may be a leak somewhere.

blue is oil

Black is soot, rich A/F ratio.

 

white = coolant
blue= oil
black = l(like AOD said) engine is running too rich and soot is being put out (common on alot of tuner cars)

 

tell me about it I have nothing but black coming out of my exhaust until i get my piggy back installed.

I forgot to add, on older cars, the hoses naturally dry rot and crack. That so far is the most obvious problem. I hope that helps for you!

 

check you coolent level when the car is hot.. if its still full then you might have problems else were, but if its low then you could have a cracked head/block/ or leaking head gasket
