need help finding my engine!!

Hi guys !! .. i have a 1999 honda civic v tech with this type of engine 1.6L L4 PFI 16V . I've been looking for it now for almost 4 months . I want the same engine. However i found two engines at a junk yard. They are used ones but they always have the same problem...On my old engine there is a space above the manifold holes and a sensor that goes on the manifold, air goes into this space. I have attached 2 pics that show you what im looking for. Can you guys tell me where i can find an engine like that? Why dont other engines have that space and if i put an engine without it can i still use my manifold or do i also have to change it. Will i lose power without it? thanks for the help....

Welcome. First of all, it's written Vtec without the h. Secondly, I assume you mean you have an ex (or maybe an hx?). The 1.6L... doesn't help. I believe the engine code is written of the right side of the block but I could be wrong about this. If you have an ex than you likely have the d16y8 engine. For '99 that was the regular vtec engine. The hx had the d16y5 and th si had the b16a2 (I believe). Anyway, I don't know what that space is in the pics. Try to find out if you have the d16y8, then find out if the one you're looking to buy matches up. Best of luck.

Look on the front of your block and you will see the code that you will want to try and match up. I can already tell that its a D16 just by looking at the manifold and head area....... since I dont know the D series as much as I know the B series I couldnt confirm it, but it sure looks like a D16Y8 to me

if you get one out of a junk yard, make sure you rebuild it before putting it in.

You will find the code (block stamp) on the front left side of your engine right above where the transmission connects to the motor.
