need more power....

hey everyone
i drive a 2003 civic lx 4dr automatic D17A1 curently getting 115 hp
i go to a school with a lot of little spoiled kids who when they get their lisence mommy and daddy buy them a mercedes or lexus 4drs for the most part. these kids have never had a hard day in their life. i have begun saving to either swap my motor put in a turbo or a nitrous system so i can smoke these spoiled little kids. my friends dad is a mechanic so he would mostly help me but i need to know what i should do and what i need, if i do an engine swap do i need a new transmission or any thing else and what engines will "just drop in" and an idea of what they will cost, or if not an engine what i should do. i have about 1k and am saving more everyother week when i get my paycheck
thanks for all the help
john

with a d17 1k is nowhere near enough. Working on tuning and the fuel system on your car is a nightmare, swaping with d17 with a k20a would be the best way to go and that is around 7-8k. You need the transmission from the k20 also, you can't use the d series trans with it.

RE: need more power....

also what other engines in a little more affordable range and where i could find them?

RE: need more power....

You picked the wrong car to be fast in, best thing to me would be to keep it stock, clean it up, and sell it. Then buy a 2000 civic SI or a used RSX-S

RE: need more power....

i really want to keep this car because i just got it so any other options?

Marty 09-10-2007 04:18 PM

RE: need more power....

RE: need more power....

An auto d17? You can't make it fast unless you dump a bunch of money into it. Either get the k20 or do what marty said and trade it for a1992-2000 civic or a rsx.

jpnolan 09-10-2007 04:35 PM

RE: need more power....

but do you know of any other engines a little less pricey?

Marty 09-10-2007 04:37 PM

RE: need more power....

no, there are not any that is what we are saying.

jpnolan 09-10-2007 04:38 PM

RE: need more power....

o **** that sucks well then should i go with a turbo instead? or nitrous or is hat bad to run on a stock engine

Marty 09-10-2007 04:41 PM

RE: need more power....

Bad to run on your stock engine, it boils down to it simply is not worth modding your car in the end. Sorry man

jpnolan 09-10-2007 04:56 PM

RE: need more power....

dam man i guess i will just save for the k20a? is that right the k20a?

Marty 09-10-2007 05:38 PM

Sorry to bring your hopes down, just think that you worked hard for what you got and in life you will be better off then these rich spoiled kids. Don't worry about it, its just jealousy and hey you don't need to beat them with your car. You have already won in your mind :D

RE: need more power....

Well a car is not a way of saying you are better than anyone at all. I mean i know retard ass broke people that drive Lexas's and Benze's then again i know rich people that drive 82 F-150's and acura integra's. The 9th richest man in the world(a musulim in the mid east) own a DC2 ITR. Bill gates drives a hybrid honda, some of the most powerfull people in the U.S. drive common everyday cars.

I'm going to give you the lowdown on your car and why you shouldnt waste money on it.
In the previous years (92-00) Most civics came with a D16, you may say, ok one number difference. Nope. The D17 is probly the worst base honda engine to make fast. Can It be done? Ofcourse it can, but it will take lots of money. Best thing would be to find a Older civic and boost the engine in it. witch would cost about 2k

RE: need more power....

thanks im going to stick with my car take it step by step and see if i can slowly replace the stock engine parts for performance ones and that quite possibly have been the corniest thing ive ever heard but at least my car thumps hella louder

Dude, there is no way you're going to squeeze more power ot of a d17 NON vtec, especially if it's an auto... That car must be worth at least 4k if it's in good condition, sell it and buy an EG or EK. I got my EK for $2500, have spent less than a thousand on it and my spoiled friends in their 05 mustangs are jelous... SELL YOUR CAR

I forgot to mention... please buy a manual trans car next time... sure, it takes a little time to learn, but trust me and the rest of us on this forum, it's worth it and it's a million times more fun and rewarding to drive

RE: need more power....

eg civic- $2000
JDM D15b with less than 35,000 miles + new tranny: about $600 plus shipping
exhaust- $350 shipped
skunk 2 cam- $300

There you go, a fast ass, runs like new eg for under $3500. Make it $4000 and you could also pick up shocks and springs, a lightweight flywheel, maybe some headers...Look for stuff on craigslist, ebay, etc. You can get **** cheap used. I got a full greddy turbo kit from a friend for $300.

RE: need more power....

Really though...you're wanting to have a fast car, they tell you you should sell and buy an older one to fix, and then you whine when they say there is nothing else you can do without an endless pocket of money.

If I were you I'd ditch on your car and buy an older one.
