hey i can get a 92 civic hb with a 1.5 vtec motor but it needs a head.what is the diffrence in the head on a non vtec and a vtec

RE: newbe

that would be the vtec! either head will work, but vtec is better, there is an additional lobe on the cam for each cylinder. when certain sensors tell it to do so the valves change their whole timing , lift , duration.... vtec= variable valve timing electromic lift control ( i dont think thats word for word, but you get the point?)

I'd say if your gonna put the time and/or money into it, at least stay with the vtec. But you should go for a d16z6 head. It'll pep up the car a lil and it flows better. Take a look into the mini-me swap.

Im with the others on the mini me swap. D16 heads can be found surprisingly cheap if you know where to look. If your lucky enough to be near a junk yard, go and look for a Civic Ex/Si, if you cant tell which it is, look on the left side of the exhaust mani, the engine code should be engraved there. You could also try the internet for one, I saw one on ebay a while back for $50.

I've heard that if a junkyard pulls the parts it's gonna run around 350 - 400. If you got a u-pull it around.. should be cheaper. I got the head, valve cover, i/m and solenoid for 100 bux off a kid on a forum. So it's all where you look.
