Newbie advice about beefing up my civic

I just got my hands on a 2001 Honda Civic four door automatic, the car lacks any sort of balls, especially in automatic.</P>

I was thinking about putting in a spoon engine, I admit im a noob nonothing about cars more then driving them and basic mainteniceand have no idea how much this would cost.</P>

I definatly dont want to walk into the mechanic with 10k in hand and say make my car fast.</P>

is it worth converting to standard transmission? I mean I drive downtown a lot so not having to bother with gears isn't always a bad thing but certainly dont like the lack of shift control in an automatic. </P>

</P>

thanks in advance</P>

If you're serious about a spoon motor, you should think about converting to a manual tranny. Spoon is gonna cost you a lot a cash though.

I'd guess at least 5 or 6k maybeas much as 8(and thats just motor). Thats money that could easily be spent on turbo or blown twin cam. <edited><editID>ntxmotorsports</editID><editDate>38122.6502199074</editDate></edited>

Exactly... a twin cam with a nice turbo setup will be quicker than a spoon engine and save you a few thousand. But you will get respect from every honda driver if u dropped in a spoon engine. I'd be there to drool on your hood<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"></P>

I am pretty sure the only engine you can swap in the 7thgens is a k20 out of an si or an acura rsx. If you have money to spend, trad your car in on an RSX if you want fast otherwise you are going to spend alot more than your car is even worth, when you could go get a better faster car and put the same amount into it and have a car that is a whole lot faster.
