Oil question...

I'm doing a mini me swap this weekend b/c I blew my head gasket. I was planning on using synthetic oil after the swap. My car is about to break 217,000 miles and I was told by a few people that this will cause the engine to lock up. Is this true. .. Thanks for the input.

RE: Oil question...

i never heard of anything like that, but i have heard that switching to synthetic can cause the gaskets to breakdown and leak, if the engine is on the way out, don't bother with the extra cost of synthetic.

RE: Oil question...

well, all the top end gaskets are gonna be new, and the pistons and rings are gonna be done. So I'm thinkin that it should be ok??? Or at least I hope..

RE: Oil question...

if the pistons and rings are going to be new I'd use dyno (regular) oil for the first 1,000-3,000 miles then switch over to sythetic.

I'm not sure, but I'd assume that with new rings you'd want to go through some break in procedure.

RE: Oil question...

Definitely regular oil for a lil while, along with some break in grease... Gonna take a lil road trip to get everything settled in, and some light driving. And hopefully everything will go smooth after that

Yeah, pretty much when you're breaking it in, don't let the revs stay in one place for very long, keep it moving around and you should do ok.

RE: Oil question...

use dino oil when breaking in, start by doing some launches at 1k, do a few there, and then start getting it up in 2000 range after launching. keep going up by 1000. you might wanna start launching at 2000ish after a while. keep going up 1000rpms until you hit redline. maybe 3 runs per k. do this for about the first five dozen or so miles on your car. then drive it lightly on the street for a couple hundred. like you can do normal driving, just dont beat on it.

if its got 217 on it & it runs good --stick with what you've been using-- it seems to work
