Ok, Problem for Pete.

SO i installed the Skunk2 Intake mani today........well I got a problem. I installed it fine and everything BUTTTTTT. I started the car and it goes FRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMMM all the way to redline (Obviously i shut it off) Heres where i think the problem is.........I unplugged all the sensors from the stock manifold, and let all the cables hang loose, because i figured theres no need to mark em bcuz theyre prolly all different male/female connections.......well turns out theyre not, theyre all the same, so i prolly hooked up a few wrong, there are three of em.......and of course i had to extend the wire in each one because NOTHING fits on the skunk2 mani without messing with it in some way....this manifold is a big headace............any idea why my car is revving so high? I also broke some stupid sensor i gotta replace but i think it was the EGR, which really shouldnt be messing with the throttle like that right? Does someone wanna go outside and tell me what sensors have what color wires on their EG civic? Otherwise im just going to have to switch em around until i get it right..............damn long post.

what side are the sensors on? i'll go out and take a quick couple of pix for you. its cold outside so i wanna do it fast

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

theyre all behind the manifold, but i need pics of the wires, so i know which ones go where, there are 3 sensors, theyre alll plugged into a plastic piece mounted on the intake manifold. Pics would make u the man, and id owe ya a few beers.

i was able to get 2 of the 3, so hopefully you can use these pix. or let me know if i'm wrong for the sensors.

ah crap. The first pic is the TPS which is on the throttle body...i didnt remove that one. THere are other sensors behind the mani....ill be able to uise wha u gave me thou.

well i tried. its cold and dark outside and it was kinda hard to really get pix even lol. but i hope with this it won't be too bad. then just use trial and error for the other two, unless thats a bad idea. don't know if it would hurt anything.

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

Pete, when I installed my mani and tb I had a similar problem. My didnt go all the way to redline, but it bounced between like 2-4.5k. What we ended up doing, is I believe adjusting the idle control valve. Im not so sure that its your sencors, but may be. I'll try to take a few pics tomm with my buddys camera. After all I owe you for all the help you've provided me with.

I think that it has something to do with the IAC like fast93 said. If the throttle is closed, its gonna be pretty hard for the engine to get enough air to run at redline. So either the IAC is open all the way or there is a massive air leak coupled with other problems.

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

This is unlikely, but is your throttle body linkeage too tight?

AgentofDarkness 02-18-2006 10:12 AM

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

But i think its gonna be something with the throttle or the IAC.

possibly a broken trhottle body gaskit im thinking. vacuum leak of sorts. but when my boy gets back ill take pics for you.....not only of his wiring but of his skunk 2 manifold just for you :D

when I got my skunk2 mani I did a search in exhaust section and found some very helpful pics from somebody else who had done it.

possibly a broken trhottle body gaskit im thinking.

There is no throttle body gasket......would that make THAT big of a deal?> I ordered a new gasket, but it wont be here till tuesday, so i figured id start the motor up w/o (put the throttle body gasket back on) Just to see how it ran....would that make THAT big of a deal...having no throttle body gasket?

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

`yeah that makes such a big difference in how the car is gonna run

Pete 02-19-2006 09:44 AM

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

so the fact that i have no throttle body gasket is whats makeing it redline?

sacicons 02-19-2006 10:43 AM

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

most likely. its sucking air in there, straight into the manifold, so the motor thinks the throttle is open, thats why its revving so high.

Pete 02-19-2006 08:42 PM

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

Yea, i knew it was going to suck in some air, but i didnt think it would go that high, i forgot to plug up a vac hole too, cuzs the skunk2 has an extra one.....perfect for my BOV though lol. Anywho it just sucks that i have to wait for honda to get the gasket, Pain in my ass.

RE: Ok, Problem for Pete.

I was about to say what the hell does the leak have to do with it. Then it dawned on me that the gas peddaly merely controls the air going into the engine lol
