Overheating.. tell me if im right

Ok I bought a 93 civic ex about 10 days ago. When I was leaving the dealership the guy forgot to put my radiator cap on. Needless to say the car overheated so I went to the local auto store and picked up another cap the guy said would work. It worked for maybe 3 days. Now my car has coolant sputtering out of the rad cap and the overflow has boiling coolant in it. If I go to my local auto zone and get another cap that threads on properly what are the chances my problem will be fixed?

Thanks,
Stephen

You should just go back to the place u bought it and have them fix it if it was their fault.

it says 16 pounds on it but it doesnt thread on properly. Do you think I will have different results with a oem cap?

Here's your excuse for a $140 (with shipping) all aluminum eBay radiator, complete with cap. racing_guys is selling them.

the radiator isnt leaking its sputtering coolant out the top and into the reserve

I had a similar issue, it turned out the fan switch was bad and the fan wasn't turning on.

If you haven't already done this, heres how you test the fan.

Take off the plug hooked to the fan sensor (its on the t-stat housing most likely). Fold a paperclip or wire into a U shape. With the key in the ON position (motor not running), jump the wire by inserting your paperclip into the plug, bridging the two contact points. The fan should kick right on.
