Port and Polish??
I know that one can gain a noticable gain of HP of about 10 HP by polishing and sanding the intake and exhaust ports. I just wanted to know what you guys thought of that. I would like to know if anyone here has attempted this. If they have could you please what sort of tools i'll be needing and any problems they encountered. Thanks

RE: Port and Polish??
Doesn't seem to me that this would add any noticable amount of horsepower. It'd prolly help a bit but I'm pretty sure its not gona add 10 hp. Doesn't seem like its worth the time and/or money.

DO IT !!!!!!!! In any combustion engine the better it breaths the better it will run.
By P & P you are allowing the air to flow through with less resistance, which inturn allows your engine to run more effeiciently. |
RE: Port and Polish??
It also prevents ionized fuel from sticking to the (dirty) walls of the intake passageways, which again helps boost power and efficiency.

RE: Port and Polish??
if you can do it or get it done for a good price go for it. but dont drop a small fortune on it

RE: Port and Polish??
i might want to get a fuel controller, that will help to after the port and polish.

RE: Port and Polish??
be careful attempting this as a first time porter... be willing to accept the fact that you will prolly attempt to port and polish about 5-10 heads before you really get the hang of it and start to actually increase horsepower...
ive seen too many people go into perfectly good heads with die grinders and make a mess and actually cause a loss in horsepower (dyno proven) because they had no clue as to what they were doing.. i am an engine machinist and have been working with performance engines for most of my life, and making a living at it for the past 6. any heads that i need ported, i send to a portworking prfessional, with a flowbench. there is so much more that goes into portwork than just making a smooth surface, the velocity, curves, angles, volume of the ports also have a drastic efect on how an engine performs... and even in some cases ive seen ports that were too smooth (on the intake side)... |
RE: Port and Polish??
A fuel controller isnt really worth the pricetag unless you have some decent mods on your car.
