Default Question about rebuild..

Hey guys I have a 98 dx at the moment. The engine is d16y7 , anyways it knocks for about a minute on a cold start up (piston slap) and the valvetrain taps like crazy. i come across a spare d16y7 that i got for free. Im planning on rebuilding this engine over the winter. My plans are high compression pistons (p29 pm7 dome pistons), 1.5mm headgasket, and i'll be doing the mini me process also so ill be using a y8 head. I'll also be changing out the main and rod bearings and i'll be getting the rods shot peened. I'm estimating around 11.5:1 c.r. give or take a little bit. Now i have two questions...1. with the higher c.r. pistons and thinner head gasket will i have the tune the engine afterwards?? I mean compression isn't really messing with your air fuel mixture. so is it absolutely necessary? I'm on a tight budget but if its mandatory ill have to do it.... and 2. Since ill be taking the crank and everything out to do the rebuild will it also be mandatory to get the engine balanced?? Thanks for any help!

So i don't have to get the engine balanced but it does need tuned...ok i gotcha. Well since i live in PA i'll get the neptune job at evans tuning. Damn but that'll run me another $700....<<question about the neptune tune...i have obd2, and i believe neptune is for obd1..can anyone direct me to a link of the conversion harness? thanks..and also, will i need aftermarket fuel management (ie. hondata, chrome..etc..etc) or does the tune come with the system?? one last thing, how bad would it be to drive it with the up'd compression before its tuned? any chance of engine damage? thanks for everyones help
