Quick spec question
I looked at a 89 prelude SI today and heres what I saw.
It looked like 2.0 Dohc and Vtec, but when I compared this info to the Sticky Thred there was contrast by way of Sohc. So I have a couple quick questions in reguards. Is it a DOHC, What is the engine code, and IYO would it be a good doner for an EG or EK swap? Or even just a rebuild on the prelude... Keep in mind my intention is to use this as my first turbo project. FYI- civic FTW and sorry about the prelude question I just know I'll get a good deal for the whole car motor and tranny. Additionally, next time im looking under the hood I'll pay more attention to the sticker info. I did read the displacement was 1.9 so I figured they meant 1.95 or whatever and call it 2.0. ? |
anyone?

There is an engine code engraved on the block, directly to the right of the transmission, and left of the exhaust manifold. Does it say B20A5?
B20A5 (16-valve, DOHC, PGM-FI) Found in: 1988-1991 Honda Prelude 2.0Si Power: 135 hp (101 kW) @ 6200 rpm Torque: 127 lb·ft (172 N·m) @ 4000 rpm Engine cc: 1958.14 Cylinder cc: 489.535 Deck cc: 13.885 Head cc: 47.3 Compression Ratio: 9.0:1 |

I wont be able to check the engine code till next week, but this is enough info to do some homework. I'll look for a case where someone; rebuilt, turboed, or swaped one to a civic to develop additional insight on this potential project.

It didn't take long for me to come to this conclusion; The B20a5 lacks in many ways. There really isn't enough support for me to use this as my first project to gain major HP. From what I read, the parts are not abundant, furthermore, I didnt find many cases where people say anything good about this motor and there arnt many with turbos. I'll continue my search for a B18c anything for now. Kevin
FYI- This is the end all post for this thred, Thanks. |
