ragged/ticking engine noise - mp3 recording available, please help

Hey guys,

I just got a used 97 ex sedan 5spd w/ abt 90k miles on it and the noise coming from under the hood is not very civic-like.
I know this b/c I used to have a 97 civic lx sedan auto w/ abt 97k miles that I crashed and the engine noise was much more smooth and high pitched and completely awesome sounding. my new car does not at all sound like this.

So if u guys could listen to the mp3 and let me know what the problem is, that'd be great.

and I JUST had the exhaust manifold replaced, so it sounds better than before, but still.. its not great. plus the car is completely stock.

the mp3 can be downloaded from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q9JQ9JJ4 or here.
its 1.73 mb, lasts 45 seconds and is very good quality (320kbps).
if you dont know how to use megaupload its very easy, just type in the 3 letter password which is given into the text box and then u'll have to wait 45 seconds to download.

THANKS guys, your help is much appreciated.
