Was this a reasonable price to pay for repair?

Hi... just trying to determine if the $500 I paid for the following services on a '97 Honda Civic DX (4-door sedan) was reasonable:

- two rotors and brake pad replaced
- muffler replaced
- oil change

They broke it down as $350 for parts + $150 labor... just want to know if price reasonable, thanks!!! I asked them about resurfacing the rotors (which I had had done a few years ago) but they said the rotors were too thin and needed to be replaced...

Two of those thing you could have done yourself and saved yourself some money; oil change and brake rotors/pads.
But where did you go to? just some random shop or somewhere like Firestone or Dobbs?

its a pain.. but I don't think the price is unfair.

you'll save a lot of money if you work on your own car, but those prices are probably fair. where you live has a huge impact on shop rates. When my wife and I lived in Baltimore we went to a guy who charged $95/hr for his shop rate... we only used him if it was an electrical thing that had me stumped, but he was great... then we moved to western maryland and only paid $38/hr.....

if they used a honda muffler, they paid quite a bit for that as well...

$500 is a lot, but as long as they did decent work and treat you well, its a fair price.

i agree its alittle bit high BUT every shop in the world charges that or more every day. thats why its good to learn how to do them yourself if you can!

if you just replaced the muffler thats a simply 2 bolts, and a few shots of WD40 on the rubber hangers and just pull the old one off and slide new one on and bolt up. its very easy if its a direct replacement.
oil change very easy! they probably charged like 30-50bucks for it...

tho the rotors and pads those usually does cost more that probably cost ya 1/2 the total mainly for parts. they charge the premium price for the parts cause they can!

as long as they treated ya good and if you have any problems with the job and they promptly fix the issue then the price is reasonable.
