Silly question about 99 Coupe Si(R) engine

I just need to get this right once and for all guys. what engine does this car have? Is it the B16A? 160 bhp 1.6 liter with DOHC and VTEC.. Or it that the EX? (B16A).

This B18C1 thingy would be the 94+ Integra engine, right? With 210 bhp and a 9000 rpm redline, or is that the B18C (without any numbers.. Integra 98+).

My head is getting confused.

I want to turbo my 99 Civic Coupe Si(R), but if this B18C(1) thingy is so much better I might go for a swap before doing anything bigtime to the car performance wise.. What would be the best motor to use in that car before adding a turbo? And what would the average price on one be? I have already used 25 000$ US on the car alone, so a few more doesn't really matter in the long run.

The Si and SiR are the same car only the SiR have ABS and heated side-mirrors, right?

ok.....where do you live?i ask the same question one time(whats the difference with SI and SIR and this is what they told me) in canada the SI is actually the ex in the US. So in the US the SI is actually the SIR.ok now...in the 99 civic SI(US version) it has a B16A2. that has 160hp and 8200rpm redline. the b18c1 is the integra GSR motor it has 178hp and a 8200 rpm redline. the b18c with no number that you are talking about is the itr motor...that motor has 210hp and 8900rpm redline they both are fairly expensive. the gsr motor is not that much of a power difference but the itr is a huge difference and also really expensive. if i were you i would keep the b16 and turbo it will save you time and money in the long run

Actually, the ITR motor is the B18C5. The B18C1 is the USDM GSR, and the B18C is the JDM Teg SiR.

what remmy sees when you all talk about motors:

o i knew the b18c5 was the itr but on totaljdm.com they have the itr code listed as b18c with no number so i just assumed it went by that to....but i knew the gsr thanks for clearing that up though

RE: Silly question about 99 Coupe Si(R) engine

in japan they dont use the last number. so the jdm motors are b16a's, even the b16a2s say b16a. and i am pretty sure most jdm motors are the same, so som epeople still call the jdm ITR the b18c, though for clarity, its better to say b18c5, or c1 for the gsr.

RE: Silly question about 99 Coupe Si(R) engine

The only reason I try to clarify whenever possible is that there are CR and power differences between the JDM B18C and the GSR B18C1...

Thanks Blackhatch124!

So, Kappa22.. Should I keep my B16A2 and just turbo that, or should I get the B18C (210 hp) before turboing? My original B16A2 only have 42 000 miles on it, so it's almost new.. Would be a waste the swap it for a B18C with 100 000 miles for example :p

How about internals? Are the internals in the B18C any better? Or are they about the same? (the extra horsepower coming from that extra 0.2 liter mainly, or?)..

There is no problem for me to use about 10 000$ on a turbo system, as long as it's done properly. So if I'm going to meet the wall performance wise because of my B16A2 then I'll rather swap I guess. But if the B16A2 can keep up fairly high (350 wheel hp maybe) with some new internals that will be enough. I don't think I will ever go past 400 whp anyway to keep it street legal. I can always use nitrous for those last few hp when I need it (on the drag strip for example).

Btw: Thanks to everyone else for answering

RE: Silly question about 99 Coupe Si(R) engine

Well, for $10,000 (at least in America), you can build a straight up balls-to-the-wall turbo B16, something that'll strike fear into the heart of anyone who hears your name... that kinda thing. In order to get anywhere near the kind of numbers you're thinking of, you're obviously going to have to revamp the engine completely. With that kind of money, you shouldn't have any problem hitting 350 whp. The only thing is, a fully built boosted B16 will not be the epitome of a streetable car. The B18 is usually a bigger draw for FI because of the more potent stock low-end and the lower compression ratio. Basically, you can get to a higher level of performance with less money with a B18C than you can with a B16A.

sacicons drives a B18C1 every day, so you should ask him for more dirty details, but if I were you and had that much money to spend, I'd do the B18C swap, sell your B16A for easily over a grand, and then build the new motor...
