I dunno how $1000 where Pete is could be $7000 where you are especially since most of his parts are found on Ebay and shipped to your house. Pete has a "turbo shopping list" in the DIY section that you might want to check out. An EMS is a computer that hooks onto your car's stock computer. What it will do is allow you (or your tuner) to change the amount of fuel that is sprayed during each RPM range as well as the spark timing at every RPM range. A FMU is not a computer, it is mechanical (this is where my knowledge gets kinda sketchy). It will change the fuel pressure (i think) as you have more boost pressure so that your engine gets enough fuel to match the extra air. I'm sure some1 is gonna come along to clear this up (something in there is prolly wrong).

isn't the EMS full standalone by aem? but yeah a fmu raises the fuel pressure per lbs of boost.

I think you are correct about EMS bieng a standalone. "This user-programmable system plugs directly into a vehicle’s factory ECU harness and requires no additional wiring or hardware" So i guess i was wrong about EMS, but i know that there are piggy back ECUs as well.

Check out Greddy e-manage ultimate, it's a piggyback that gives you many features of a stand-alone for half the price.
