squeaky pulley
my girlfriend's civic has a very squeaky pulley, im not sure which one it is. should I just grease them all, or is there a way to distinguish which one it is? would tightening the belts solve the problem? or do I need a new pulley?

I've had the bearing in both my alternator and my power steering pump go bad. In the alternator, it was more of a whirring noise. My power steering pump squeaked.
However, it's probably just your belt. To rule out the a/c compressor, turn the a/c off and see if it still happens. If it stops, then it's the a/c compressor. If it doesn't stop, just try to tell which area it is coming from to determine if it's the p/s pump or the alternator. It can slip from being a worn out belt, or being too loose. Any time I had a belt squeak, to fix it I turned the car off, and started it. If it squeaked, I tightened it. Then I started the car again, and if it still squeaked I tightened some more. Once it stopped squeaking on startup I tightened it just a tiny bit more. |
