Starter Problem

I just bout a 1994 Civic EX 1.6 Sohc with 130,000 miles 5 Speed for $800. Guy told me it needed a new started I popped the clutch to get it started and brought it to my friends to start fixing the car. Find out that it seems he put the wrong starter and the cam wasnt reaching the fly wheel so we find the longer peice flywheel. Guy tolds us it most likely the car orginally fron Cali if it needs this type of starter. Put it in still isnt starting. the teeth on the fly wheel appear it find wit no teeth missing at all. We cant figure out WTF is wrong with it. would anyone have any helpful suggestion???????? <edited><editID>RuFF</editID><editDate>38118.7686689815</editDate></edited>

If you are 100% sure the flywheel is good (pull the started out and look at it to make sure the teeth are not worn), i would take the starter out and get a friend to turn the key to be sure the starter solanoid is good. If it does not move out on the shaft when the key is turned, you need to replace it. If the starter is not a Civic starter, ditch it.

my friend thinks it is the flywheel but his father looked at it also and thinks the flywheel is fine. it really apears to be nothing wrong but if there slightly worn would that cause not to start up at all</P>

If the teeth are slightly worn, that could be the problem. A sticky solanoid could also be the problem.</P>

When you try to start it, do you hear the starter spinning?</P>

Myguess is the solanoid (if the starter is the right one for the car).

At least now you know and you can start it without having to pop the clutch all the time (unless you want to).
