Synthetic Oil in Honda's?

Hope this is the right forum.

Does anybody use synthetics? I just bought a 95 Suburban from a friend of the family and he has always used synthetics. He swears by them. He has several cars and trucks and routinely opens up the engines and he says it's like night and day.

He says the synthetic oil engines are 10 times cleaner inside and that using natural oil leaves a bunch of gunk. Anyway he said the synthetics don't leave ANY gunk.

Anybody use or open up an engine with synthetics?

Ok, I use full synthetic on my 84" Scottsdale, and my Civic. Just change your oil every 3,000 miles, your engine will last for a long while. And yes, synthetic oil is better for your engine than natural oil, just make sure you change your oil every 3G's for the best results.

3000 miles is probably a bit too often if you use synthetic.

no, not probably. dino oil is like a buck a qt. systhetics are like 4-5 bucks a qt. and changing them at 3k is way to much. syn oil is good for like 7-8k. so 3k is way overkill. 3k is even a little overkill with dino oil. its good for at least 4-5k.

I change my oil in my 97 HX EVERY 3000 regaedless. Same in my 99 Rodeo. And it costs me alot cause i use royal purple And a napa gold filter or a K&N filter.

for the first 1000 miles or so, use some good conventional oil, synthetics will protect it too much, and wont allow it to break in properly. then you can start using synthetic if you want. i like the syntec blend, it lasts a little longer than conven, but isnt as expensive as full syn. but ive heard bad things about Pennzoil causing a lot of buildup. supposedly they changed it too make it a little better, but ill stick with Castrol and Valvoline, and a couple of other brands if they are on sale (in Wifeys car), but mine, its Castrol Syntec or Syntec blend. or i guess sometimes ill use Mobil if its cheaper than Castrol. just stick with big names.

I was debating on going with synthetic or just a good quality oil. I'm not concerned so much as how long to go between oil changes, so much as protecting the life of the engine.
How would it be bad to change the oil too much? I mean like every 3000 miles. Doesn't the oil break down somewhat over time and possibly not protect as well?

yeah, but people dont realize that its the oil manufacturers that say every 3k, the car manufacturers say like 5k, so i stay between those two. unless im using synthetic, which doesnt really break down, then its every 7-8k. and if you want the best for your engine, go with the synthetic. but dont bother overchanging it, changing the conven oil at <3k will put more wear on your motor than using syn and changing it at 7k. just change the filter every 3k and check the oil level often.
