Timing Issues??!!
 

Ok peeps, if you have read my recent posts you have discovered im about to set the car on fire. If not, the short and sweet of it is the mofo WILL NOT START!! Ive tried everything! I dont claim to be some super tech, but i sure as hell am not dumb when it comes to cars. Now, people have been telling me over and over im 180 degrees off, BUT no one will tell me how to fix it. Now, i want you to look at these pics and tell me if its 180 off, AND if it is, how can i fix it.

My finger is pointing to the white hash mark between the groove that haynes and helms says is TDC for the block

At the top of the cam gear you will see the dimple with the box around it showing the cam is at TDC

And finally as you will notice with the block and cam at TDC, the distributor is firing the #1 cylinder

I don't know about your afternarket cam gear, but stock one should be installed differently. Providing this is D series engine.

It is a D-series, and how would it go on differently?? All the cam gears have keys, they can only go on one way
I can get a timing light, but just looking at this, how could the timing be off, EVERYTHING lines up

Well, I just refreshed my memore with 92-95 service manual.

Cam gear has three keys and "UP" mark. When "UP" mark is up, two keys are flash (D15) or almost flash (D16) with upper head surface, and the middle one should match (D16) or almost match (D15) pointer on the timing belt back cover (about 80 degrees down).

Guess your aftermarket cam gear came with installation instructions, try to find and read them. It look very likely to me your problem is here.

??? What 3 keys, there is only one notch in the cam, and the cam gear can only slide on one way, if you notice in the pic, the dimple is the same as the "up" mark. So, again, the cam is at TDC

CORRECTION: Wrong word used. Sorry for my English. You should read not KEY but MARK or "I" MARK. I was talking not about connecting gear to the cam, I was talking about proper gear orientation for timing belt installation. Sorry my English:(

yeah...if you still have your stock cam gear compare it to your current one. if the "up" on the stock one aligns with your notch on this one han its right....but may be not. I just looked at it three days ago.

I do not have the stock one, but if the timing is off, explain why the distributor is firing cylinder 1 . If the cam was off, it would be at a different position.
