Timing question

Default Timing question

Need to replace a timing belt on a 99 ex with d16 motor. Someone told me it was possible to do without removing the crankshaft pulley? Was wondering if this was possible...if it is it has to be a pain in the ***...everything i've ever worked on timing wise i remove the pulley. Much easier to get at everything....but i don't work on many honda motors....

You have to take the pulley off and good luck with it took me like 30 min to actually take it off with a chain wrench and a 24 inch breaker bar.

What's the easiest way to get it locked so that you can turn the bolt without the crank rotating...this one is so tight it actually started stripping teeth off the timing belt...(we had the cam gear locked)

Awesome links! Wouldn't happen to have one of those for ignition timing would you? The marks on the crank pulley got me kinda puzzled. The one that's off to the right by itself i'm guessing is the tdc mark then i'm not sure as to what the three to the left of it are...looks something like this ||| |

Use the middle red mark in the group of three to set the ignition timing. The lone white mark is for setting the mechanical timing.

Now download the 96-00 Civic service manual at one of the sites in my signature and you should be good to go.

Thanks man...just one more question...is it necessary to do anything with the scs connector? Does that act as an electronic advance or anything? Or can i leave it plugged up when i set base timing?

You must jump the connector to prevent the ECU from controlling the timing while you set it.
