Default Unorthodox Underdrive Pulley

There was a big write up in HCI (hot compacts and imports) magazine about this pulley kit. Other threads have said that these kits dont work as good and everything, but the article was claiming like 18 horsepower on a VTEC or turboed car, and only like 10 or so on N/A (still impressive though). Opinions/Experiecne with these? Anyone?

underdrive pulleys modify the "gear" ratio of the pulleys powering accesories like power steering, alternator, ac, etc. The positive results are greater horsepower across the band and fuel economy(provided you don't start hammering around town.) The negative effect will be less effective accessories, most importantly, the alternator won't provide as efficient charging as previously. This should be minor, unless you have 500hp(373000w) hyperbole stereo pulling the juice from the battery faster than the alternator can replenish it.
This per my father's advice... underdrive pulleys are common to SBC as Sport Compact.

^^^ that is true, but most honda underdrive pulleys don't really change the size of the pulleys that much, they mostly reduce the weight.

^^ wouldn't that be a positive thing EF?, I've come to understand that changing the size of the pulley could cause problems.

the reduced weight is what you want, so ef you're saying this is a good thing then? And you could always get a cap for your audio system if you needed it.

yeah thats what the article said. Unless you have nitrous, VTEC, turbo, supercahrger, etc. you see as much of a difference. So you guys are saying spend my money on something else?

if only weight is changing, then there really isn't any negative, only positive. Only when you change the size will you run into alternator issues.

It's really up to you. If it can't hurt your car then why not. That set seems pretty reasonable as well.
