Using old head gasket/broken stud
 

Quick question:
What will happen if I remove the head of my d16, fix it, and put it back on using the same head gasket? What are the risks? How serious of a no-no is this?

I've got a stud from the exhaust manifold that broke off slightly inside the head itself. I'm considering trying to drill/spin it out, MIGing it and trying to turn that sob, or just takin the head off and removing it. Any suggestions?

This header is getting outta control. So far, I've replaced the o2, dealing with broken stud, and i get an occasisonal CEL. This is fun.

you risk filling your cylinders with coolent and bending valves, you can also trash your motor because the coolent will seap into the crankcase and isnt very good at lubricating mixed with oil so there goes your bottom end

ya for the cost... replace it as well as other seals while the motors apart. save yourself a NASTY driping oil spot leaving its mark everywhere ya go!

just dont cheap out or else youll REALY REGRET IT! and after ya put the head back on spin the motor over by HAND OR SOCKET and if it binds on anything they you dont have the cam shaft lined up right with the crankshaft... alot beter than trying the starter and bending a valve!

Exactly why I didn't want to change hg's. Cause then I might as well just do all of em.
