Ok so i have a 1.7 V Tech engine...how do you know when the V tech is kicking in..like what RPM is it normally?

RE: V Tech
It's VTEC not V Tech taht is a phone, not affiliated with Honda in anyway

RE: V Tech
yeah dood u look like a f*ckin noob spellin it Vtech like its some house phone... lol
it kicks in usually in late RPMs to my knowledge.. i hear like 1000 rpms before the redline but not sure. i think if u have DOHC you feel it better. |
RE: V Tech
Depends on your car. I have a 2000 Si and mine chimes in at 5500rpm.

RE: V Tech
From what I've heard, it depends on your oil pressure... that's why vtec doesn't kick in sometimes when you use synthetic oil. Anyway, for me (from what I can hear of it... stupid sohc lol), it sounds like it hits at around 5500.

RE: V Tech
im with reaper on this, i have an SOHC too and I can barely hear it at around 5500 and from hearin people talk, that seems the common agreement

pshh... these kids and their b18's... man, I wish my civic sounded like that, though... I guess I'll just have to wait for my b16 swap to hear it like that.

RE: V Tech
yeah, It's really really hard to hear it on a SOHC engine. If you pay close attention to the tach, you'll see it jump when VTEC engages. Here are some stats I found about when VTEC engages:
D16Z6 and Y8 = 4800 rpm B18C1 (GSR) = 4400 rpm B16A from JDM = 4800 rpm B16A2 and A3 from USDM = 5500 rpm |
