V Tech

Ok so i have a 1.7 V Tech engine...how do you know when the V tech is kicking in..like what RPM is it normally?

It's VTEC not V Tech taht is a phone, not affiliated with Honda in anyway

yeah dood u look like a f*ckin noob spellin it Vtech like its some house phone... lol

it kicks in usually in late RPMs to my knowledge.. i hear like 1000 rpms before the redline but not sure. i think if u have DOHC you feel it better.

Depends on your car. I have a 2000 Si and mine chimes in at 5500rpm.

From what I've heard, it depends on your oil pressure... that's why vtec doesn't kick in sometimes when you use synthetic oil. Anyway, for me (from what I can hear of it... stupid sohc lol), it sounds like it hits at around 5500.

im with reaper on this, i have an SOHC too and I can barely hear it at around 5500 and from hearin people talk, that seems the common agreement

pshh... these kids and their b18's... man, I wish my civic sounded like that, though... I guess I'll just have to wait for my b16 swap to hear it like that.

yeah, It's really really hard to hear it on a SOHC engine. If you pay close attention to the tach, you'll see it jump when VTEC engages. Here are some stats I found about when VTEC engages:
D16Z6 and Y8 = 4800 rpm
B18C1 (GSR) = 4400 rpm
B16A from JDM = 4800 rpm
B16A2 and A3 from USDM = 5500 rpm
