ifi remove the valve cover from my d16y7 will all the oil in the head come out? and do i need a new gasket to put it back on. i need to adjust my valve lash and dont want oil all over the place.

you'll need to drain the oil, you might need to replace the gasket depending on the condition or if it sticks and rips apart, adjust the valve, put the new or old gasket back on, torque everything to spec, fill it back up with oil

actually.........you wont have to drain the oil.........the oil level in the head actually sits below the valve cover line. the only oil you will drip is residual oil left on the valve cover from being splashed up by the rocker assembly and cam.

yah, you dont need to drain the oil, just let the engine sit for a bit to let the oil drip off the valce cover before you take it off.

as for the gasket, it is a rubber o ring, when i took mine off it looked fine, although the manual says put rtv sealant where the oring meets with the camshaft bearing/housing thing

i just like to make sure when adjusting the valves, draining the oil isn't neccessary, but it makes me feel better when i do it.

when working with internal items you must feel comfortable or you may possibly damage something.......so if draining the oil makes you comfortable my all means do it. and hey, you can never have to clean an oil:)

ill just wait untill my next oil change, and ill have a gasket on hand. will that blue silicone work to seal it by the cam gear or whatever?

yeah, that or hondabond, put a dab in the corners around the cam housing to keep the gasket sealed completely

make sure when you adjust valve lash the engine is stone cold, meaning it hasn't been run for at least a few hours. otherwise your adjustments will be off due to the metal expanding and contracting
