whats the difference between standard size valves and hi comp valves. how would you use them differently.

don't think size. think weight and build quality.

type R valves are similar to lesser series valves, such as GSR valves, but are lighter but still stronger due to their design.

they're lighter in order to be able to spin at higher RPMs without failing.

well im in the process of purchasing some skunk2 valves and dont know which to choose the standard size stock one or the hi comp stock size ones.

just depends on what you're planning to do with your engine. boost? or high compression normally-aspirated?

I don't buy into the oversize valves trend. One of the best N/A B-series' I've seen runs an 86mm bore and stock size valves. I've also heard the build quality on aftermarket valves simply can't or at least hasn't replicated the quality of OEM.

Won't make a difference what you're doing with it. All larger valves do is further shroud the cylinder. Smaller valves (and/or a bigger bore) allow for less resticted air flow. The only reason I could see to go with larger valves is if you had bored the cylinder head so greatly stock valves could no longer seal well, which I'm not an expert on head porting so I couldn't tell you how common or uncommon that is.
