vtec going bad
this is my first time on here so bare with me.
when i bought my 95 civic ex w/ a d16y8, the vtec would kick in at about 4800 rpm and you could really feal it. now when it kicks in, it bogs down, looses power. whats up with that? when its cold it will kick it. but at opperating temp it wont. |
RE: vtec going bad
Are you sure you aren't experiencing something else. Vtec shouldn't kick in at 4800 I dont believe and honestly you shouldn't be able to feel it on that engine.

RE: vtec going bad
welll i happen to have the same engine...vtec comes on at 5500 rpm, and no matter wat anyone else says i can hear , feel , and see the difference. It defintaly changes the noise of the engine, and the rpms will climb quicker.

RE: vtec going bad
who puts a y8 in an EG?
|
RE: vtec going bad
Probably means z6
|
RE: vtec going bad
ps vtec cant really go bad. you have it or you dont...thats just how it works.
|
RE: vtec going bad
i'd rather have a z6
|
RE: vtec going bad
IT IS A D16Y8. COME OUT OF A LADIES '98 EX COUPE. 30,000 MILES ON IT.
THATS JUST HOW I BOUGHT IT. $1,800... WASN'T GOING TO PASS IT UP |
RE: vtec going bad
THERES NO NEED TO YELL
anyway....my d16y8's vtec starts at 5500rpm, whats better about a z6? |
RE: vtec going bad

RE: vtec going bad
its probably just low on oem honda vtec fluid. It wont engage fully without the fluid, the valves wont be lubed enough, and the ECU doesnt let it engage 100%. Under the VTEC solenoid there is a VTEC Fluid resiv.......go to the dealer and get a pint, its cheap.....10 bucks and youre back in business.

ORIGINAL: turbo_ricer when its cold it will kick it... getting any check engine lights? |
RE: vtec going bad
1800 is an awful lot to spend on a y8...
|
RE: vtec going bad
no im sorry. $1800 is what i paid for the car w/ the motor in it.
i dont know how you guys put the quote at the top of your reply... how do you.[/color] no check engine lights are on. do you think the headers have a part in it? |
RE: vtec going bad
Why hasn't anyone said the obvious? Check your oil.
and no matter wat anyone else says i can hear , feel , and see the difference. |
